About culturespace.org

“culturespace.org is a blog in pursuit of The Long Tail’s best storytelling.”

There you go. Ok, alright, I might need to break that down a bit.

The Long Tail? Who is he? That can’t possibly be his real name. Why are his stories randomly scattered across the internet? Why are you trying to track them down?

The Long Tail is the new media landscape enabled by technologies that allow independent producers to create and distribute their work. Cheap DVD pressing, the internet, on demand cable–the number of channels for sharing one’s work keeps multiplying. There’s an explosion of content out there. Most of it’s lousy. Some of it’s not. I created culturespace.org to share the best.
Sometimes that means wading through mud in search of pearls. You can help. If you see something you think is worth sharing, don’t hesitate to pass it on to me, josephprice@culturespace.org. But first take a look a culturespace.org’s editorial prejudices:

  • This is a site about the little guys. I get excited about the network fall upfronts too, but this is about the new generation of content creators. I realize that in the future this line will become increasingly blurred.
  • Storytelling=plot, tension, conflict, drama, character development. Or the artful omission of any of the previous. Your YouTube video about your friend stuffing your face full of Oreos is AWESOME, but don’t send it here.
  • Don’t send links to copyrighted content illegally hosted elsewhere. Copyright law in America is broken, but culturespace.org is tracking a different revolution.
  • Original content preferred. I’m a big fan of Superman fan films, but why not invent a brand new superhero?

I hope you enjoy this site.
